What is a healthy amount of time to play Runescape?

This guide is designed to help you be safe and comfortable while playing Runescape, both RS3 and RS2. This guide may be used for other video games as well, but will use Runescape references.

After all, playing video games is supposed to be a relaxing recreational activity. Things to consider:

  • Position: Make sure your position is not encouraging discomfort.
  • Forces: Even low forces can cause injury, especially when repeated over time.
  • Breaks: Stepping away at regular intervals is important.
  • Health: Keep a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

When playing Runescape, adapt your surroundings and arrange your equipment to promote relaxed and comfortable postures for the sake of your body. If you do not, symptoms can be associated with painful and sometimes permanently disabling injuries or disorders of the nerves, muscles, tendons, bloos vessels and other parts of the body. These musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) include carpal tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis, vibration syndromes, tendonitis, and even more!

Ways to prevent this include:

  • Positioning yourself to use comfortable, not awkward, postures.
  • Keeping your hands, fingers, and other body parts relaxed.
  • Taking breaks.
  • Developing a healthy lifestyle.

Some people allow their kids under 2 hours of television per day, and no video games. Most of the parents that do allow their kids to play games, don't monitor how much that play. Many kids are led into being raised by their friends on their video games. They become un-attached from their family, and attach to their mouse and keyboard, or controller. I'd say that 2 hours a day is low for entertainment for a kid, but 10 or more hours is too much as well. A nice 4 to 6 hours is proper, when the kids do get an hour or more of proper exercise. Most do not, since it can be a come from school, get on, and go to sleep type of day. Parents need to be in control of regulating these times.

Children do no need to be monitored 24/7 but they do need to be kept an eye on. School is important, exercise, is as well, but most of all, they need to learn how to become an adult. This means that they can play games, but need to start building on responsibilities as well. maybe at fifteen, they can start mowing the lawn, and at sixteen a job. There are games that you can play, solo or as a family that help you get fit, for example on the Xbox Kinect or Wii.

Don't play too much, but play. It's a good motto, even for the oldest, strictest, most protective parents in the world.
